A Word from UAS Chancellor Dr. Aparna Dileep-Nageswaran Palmer:
Indigenous Peoples’s Day “is an opportunity to be grateful to the Peoples who have cared for this beautiful place for time immemorial. It is also a chance to reflect upon our accomplishments as a university in elevating Alaska Native Studies and feel proud of our commitment to honor the languages, cultures, arts, histories, sciences, technologies, and wisdom of the Indigenous Peoples of Southeast Alaska and beyond. There is so much to appreciate!
It is also a day to reflect upon the injustices that Indigenous Peoples have endured and to continue working thoughtfully towards healing. We have a long way to go, but I am proud that, as a university, we are a community that wants to listen, learn, and grow in order to build a healthier world.”
Aparna
